The other day I noticed a scratch on Ryan’s check just below his eye. The conversation went something like this:
Momma: “Ryan, what happened? How did you get a scratch on your face?”
Ryan: “Owen did it momma.”
Momma: “How did Owen do that? What happened?”
Ryan (in a matter of fact tone of voice): “Mom. That is a very good question.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. It was so cute and so matter of fact. If I recall he even put his hands on his hips as he said it. Too funny.
He is constantly negotiating. He makes rules for Owen to follow, but refuses to follow them himself. For instance, the other night when Owen didn’t finish his dinner, the conversation went something like this:
Owen: “Momma. I’m done. I don’t want to eat it.”
Ryan (responding more quickly than momma): “Owen. If you’re hungry later and you ask for a snack, your dinner will be your snack. You can eat your dinner for your snack and nothing else.”
Owen: “Ryan. You don’t make the rules. Momma does.”
Ah….. love these kids. Yes, we have said that about dinner and snacks, but no it never happens.
