A Slight Obsession

Our dog is a little OCD. Well, maybe not a little. Maybe a lot. Actually, definitely A LOT.

Last summer her obsession was golf balls in the backyard. And don’t get me wrong, she is still obsessed with this game.

She slightly definitely freaks out when she sees anyone (the boys included) holding a golf club and ball. She absolutely loves to chase the whiffle balls and bring them back to you.

But this Spring she has a new obsession. She loves when we hit tennis balls up the hill for her. She runs full force up the hill to catch the ball and then straight back down to deliver the ball to your feet so she can do it again.

It sounds harmless enough. Right?

Well, you haven’t met our Delta. She gives it her all. And her all is about 170% with each hit.

The ball sails into the air up the hill and typically bounces off of the fence and which point Delta jumps up to grab it (on a slope of about 45 degrees) and then runs with all her might back down the hill. With such an incline she typically gains quite a lot of speed and will sometimes roll, slide or fall on her way.

This definitely does not stop her. She drops the ball at our feet and backs up waiting for you to hit the ball so she can do it all over again.

She loves this game. She loves that we have the new play set and we’ve been outside every night playing this game with her. She’s definitely got a slight obsession with this game and routine.

But she won’t stop. You need to make the decision to stop for her. Because no matter how tired or hot she is, she will just pant through it and keep chasing the ball.

Well, that is until a few days ago anyway. A few days ago when she had enough of the game she decided to bury the ball.

Pretty smart huh? She may be a little obsessive and slightly OCD, but she sure is smart.

What funny obsessions do your pets have? Leave a comment and I’ll feature all of the various stories in a future blog post.
