Your Votes Have Been Counted

And I still have no idea what to do about my new header and blog design.

I know, I know.  You’re wondering why I don’t just pick the winner right?

Here’s the thing.  It wasn’t that cut and dry.  I do have a winner so to speak. The header that came in as the top favorite was…

Now here is my dilemma. And it’s a big dilemma for me.

Most of you who selected this one left a comment saying they specifically liked the font layout of this one.

A great amount of you selected this one as the runner-up to the winner above…

But on this one you specifically said you liked the flowers.  That it wasn’t quite so plain as the one above.

And then a great deal of you also commented that you liked my current header and wondered why I would change it.

The biggest problem is that I agree with all of you.   So let me share my side of the story and see if anyone has a solution for me.

The photo in my current header was taken more than 1.5 years ago.  Owen still looks like a baby in that picture and Ryan looks like, well, an almost 3 year old.  He’s now well over 4 years old and Owen is going to be 3 years old this summer.  It’s outdated.

Since I needed a new photo anyway I thought I would change my header slightly, but keep the same colors and fonts.  I thought it would be easier to not have a photo on it so that I wouldn’t have to worry about it being outdated down the road.

The header with the flowers matches my business, My Hello Designs and my Etsy store.  I like that the blog and business would tie together and I do want to start blogging more about my design work so it makes sense to incorporate the flowers into my header.  Don’t you think?

The easy and logical thought is to use the winning header and just replace the three little designy things (that’s the technical term by the way) for three flowers.  Right?  But it doesn’t look right.  I’m not a fan.

I even tried adding a fourth flower.  Still don’t care for it.

So then I went with a little different concept.  Still not sold.

So now I’m stuck. Maybe I should just try to get a new photo taken that is current and incorporate the new photo along with a flower or two? We could use new family photos anyway. I think I need to play around a little more and make sure I’m sold on the design.

I do appreciate you all taking the time to vote and comment. You definitely helped me decide on the text layout. Now I just need to figure out a way to incorporate the flowers. And perhaps my grab button can still incorporate a photo of us?

Oh, who knows.  Any suggestions?

    I love the last one!

  3. Okay, I LOVE the third one that you did with the full flowers. It is adorable. Completely agree that you should have your business and your blog connected. What better way for people to get to know you better then your blog than to hear more about what you love to do, your design work.
And I had to take the photo off my blog header too because it was just too hard to keep taking pictures and feeling like I needed to change it all the time.
But I still say the cutest one if the last one that you designed!

Thank you!! Your comment makes me feel much better about the change and decision to remove our family photo. Thanks for your comment on the last design. It’s definitely growing on me the more I look at it. I think I might play around using that one and updating some of the other elements on my blog and incorporating that look into it more. Thanks again for leaving a comment!

I would LOVE to hear from you!
