New Year, New School

If you know me, you know I love change.  I thrive on change.  But you also have to know that the change I love has to be on my terms.  And you have to know that while I do love change, it does stress me out.  I always wonder if it was the right decision?  What impact it will have on our daily routines?  How will it affect the boys?

So when we decided to change schools, this was a big change.  It was the type of change that stresses me out.  It wasn’t the toothpaste kind of change I’ve talked about before.  Woodchase Academy is all that the boys have ever known.  All of their friends are there.  It’s convenient and close to our house. It was routine.

But it wasn’t right for us anymore. And we needed to make a decision.  We needed to find a school that could provide what we were looking for and what the boys needed.

And we did.

The boys love it.  And so do we.

It’s a Montessori school that provides the boys with the environment they need to thrive and excel.

I was first introduced to Montessori when I lived in Denver, CO.  I met this amazing family through the nanny agency that I worked for.  They were new to Denver (relocated from NYC) and they needed childcare for their infant son when they both (parents; not son) developed food poisoning.  They knew nobody so they called the nanny agency.  I was asked to help them out.  I arrived at their house and ended up staying there for several days.

It was a strange situation, but we became friends immediately.  I started to pick up their son from childcare several days a week as their work hours were crazy getting settled in with new companies/firms.

Their childcare was a Montessori school.  I loved it.  I learned a lot about the Montessori philosophy as I learned more about the family.

And then after several years they relocated to Chicago, IL.  After much frustration with the schools in Chicago, they decided to open their own Montessori school, Montessori Academy of Chicago.  I told you they were amazing people didn’t I?!  And that is when I started to learn even more about the Montessori philosophy.

So now several years later, with two toddler boys ourselves, here we are attending a Montessori school.  And loving it.

Wouldn’t you agree that this is a face that loved his first day at his new school?

And those rocks in his hands? Well, that’s a post for another day…..
