Pumpkin Carving Contest

And I won!!!  I admit it was me against me in the contest so my odds of winning were pretty good.  But still.  I’m proud of the end results.

The intent of this pumpkin carving was for some quality family time.  But it didn’t go as planned.  It never does.

I ventured out to get the pumpkins with the boys while Jim worked.  Both boys fought the whole way.  They whined and cried and complained.  About everything.

We arrived at the store and they both wanted the same pumpkins.  Each and every one.  If one changed their mind and selected a different one than the other brother wanted that one too.  And over and over and over again.  I threatened leaving the store, but realized I wasn’t going to do that.  I wanted to carve pumpkins and I was not letting a few minor temper tantrums stand in the way of that.

So, I picked out two pumpkins and we were on our way.

We got all of our pumpkin carving tools and headed out to the driveway on this glorious fall day.  It was a blast.  The boys had a great time.  And even though Owen flat out refused to touch the pumpkin guts, he enjoyed splashing in the water.

And Ryan loved scooping up the insides and immediately washing his hands.  It was hilarious.

Mommy did most (aka all) of the work, but it was a blast.  The boys enjoyed their experience.  And mommy did too.

And they looked even better at night all lit up.

  1. All the way with this kind of activity it has to be appreciated and encourage the children to participate.

  2. I like the coordinated pumpkin colored clothing. A nice touch. 😉 As you may recall I write the blog adaddyblog.com about life and parenthood from the dad’s perspective. Today’s blog is called “Stop and Smell the Diapers… aka: Six ways to be a Better Dad”. Please drop by if you get the chance. I have a Facebook page, too, if you use it. Have a great weekend!
