Holiday Parties & Playdates

My oldest son surprised us almost 4 years ago and arrived early.  Five weeks early as a matter of fact.  Don’t worry though.  There was nothing premature about this boy other than the fact he wasn’t due for another 5 weeks.

He weighed in at 7 pounds 3 ounces and had no health concerns.  We stayed one extra night in the hospital and were sent home to begin our lives with a newborn one week prior to Christmas.  Our new Christmas blessing.  Our Christmas surprise.  Our Christmas miracle.  Oh, and our tax write-off for the year (hubby’s favorite part of arriving early).

Now, each year we celebrate Christmas differently.  We celebrate the birth of our own son.

Last year I decided to do something a little different for his birthday party.  I invited all of our neighbors and all of his classmates (and siblings) to our house for an early morning birthday party.  We had hot cocoa with marshmallows; coffee with a variety of flavored creamers; and hot apple cider with cinnamon sticks.

Instead of cupcakes we had Krispy Kreme doughnuts and Ryan’s was decorate with a Curious George and 3 candles. We all sang ‘happy birthday’ to our three year old Christmas surprise.

It was a blast.  Everyone loved this party idea and had such a great time.  And even though we won’t be using the same party idea this year, I definitely plan on hosting a holiday play date just like this again once our house is decorated for the holidays.
