Homework Assignment: Sock Puppet

A few weeks ago you probably read about me frantically looking for service people sock puppet patterns.  Ryan was sent home from school with homework to make a service person sock puppet for some project they were working on at school.  UGH!

Ask me to make a puppy dog, a snake, or a worm and I wouldn’t have thought twice about the project.

But a person?!  A service person none-the-less?  It couldn’t just be a person with hair, eyes and smile.  No, Ryan wanted a policeman.

UGH!

But, if Ryan wanted a policeman I was determined to make a policeman.  Off to Michael’s Craft Store we went to figure out what we could use to make this sock puppet.  I made sure to buy a variety of items and extra of everything since I wasn’t sure how it would turn out and if I’d need to “do over” any of the particular pieces.

What I came up with was this…..

Policeman Sock Puppet

Not horrible right?  Probably not the best sock puppet ever made, but not horrible right?  Please tell me it’s not horrible… LOL!

Besides, who was sent home with the homework assignment?  Me or Ryan?  That’s what I thought….. ME!

  1. Well you’ve inspired me! Although I only made paper bag puppets, and I may have only done it because I needed the kids to leave me along so I could cook and your post put the idea in my head. 😉

  2. That looks like fun! I want homework assignments like that!

  3. Well, kudos to your kidlet for understanding what a service person is and I give you, Mama, an ‘A’ for your police sock puppet!! :>

The school did a whole week or two about service people. It was great! Ryan learned a lot and loves to point out service people now when we see them. Besides the firemen he loves police officers, mail people, our UPS guy 🙂 and the trash men. He talks about them all the time and what they do. It’s so cute.

  4. Super sock puppet!! Thankfully, I never had to do one, because I KNOW it wouldn’t be half as cute, or as good!!!!

Thanks Ellie!! You know how Ryan is and he was so proud to show off his sock puppet to all of his friends. He wore it to school and showed every kid, teacher and admin. So cute! Can’t wait to see you in a few weeks!! Thanks for the comment. Love hearing from you 🙂

  5. You did a very good job. I love it even. Are you going to get promoted now? Oops sorry dear I was just kidding. The puppet turned out great.

Thank you Andrea! I attempted the Cricut route you suggested, but didn’t already have that cartridge and didn’t want to buy it just for this purpose. But your suggestion is what gave me this idea how I did it. So thanks!!

  8. That is the cutest most awesome policeman sock puppet I have ever seen. Honest. And I bet that the best part for your son is that mom made it.

Awwww! Thank you! That made my day when I read your comment. Sorry I’m just now getting to responding, but it’s been a crazy few days in our household.

  9. OK, that’s actually VERY cute! I have a hard time with these projects, since I am NOT crafty! So no, it is not horrible.

I would LOVE to hear from you!
