Whirlwind Atlanta

This is my not so Wordless Wednesday post.  There are a ton of photos though so enjoy!

Grandma Ellie and Grandpa Paul came into town for a whirlwind weekend of fun.  It was non-stop fun from Friday to Sunday and we crammed as much into the weekend as possible.  And I love that Ryan and Owen are both old enough to remember and recognize people they don’t see on a daily basis.  Both boys were talking all week about Grandma & Grandpa coming to visit and how much fun it was going to be.  They were ecstatic when I picked them up early on Friday.  They couldn’t wait to see Grandma Ellie and Grandpa Paul!

Ryan immediately hopped up on the couch and requested a book reading.  Grandma didn’t seem to mind.  I think Grandpa enjoyed the story too.

On Saturday we hit the Georgia Aquarium.  This was something we hadn’t done in quite some time; I was even able to check off number 13 from my 30 Things list.

The first viewing window we came to after entering the aquarium was one that had a scuba diver cleaning the window.  Owen was terrified.  Seriously terrified.  He refused to move from the entrance.  I was worried the rest of our visit would go this way, but once we made it past that scary scuba diver Owen did great.

They both loved it.  Seriously loved it.  There are two huge viewing walls.  The first one you come to is a wave pool type of room where the fish are smaller and colorful.  The boys loved it in this room.  The wall wraps over you and the boys loved looking up at the fish above them.

Do you see Ryan’s facial expression in the bottom photo?  Cracks me up!

The next room has a HUGE viewing wall.  With HUGE fish in it!  You can see how large the fish are in comparison to the boys.

We were at the right place at the right time (FYI – that never happens to me!) because we were able to see the fish feed. You can see the floating stuff in the water.  That is fish food (or actually other fish like squid and minnows and such).

The boys thought the  jelly fish were pretty cool too.  Ryan very quickly pointed out that we only touch the top of them and not their arms.  You think he has seen Finding Nemo once or twice?!

We even played a quick game of peek-a-boo with the penguins.  Owen seemed to think this was pretty cool.  Although he wasn’t going to take his eyes off the little guys.  Check out the sideways glance!

We saw sea horses too! I love the color in their tank and how still they are when they just bob around in the water.

After the Georgia Aquarium we headed to the Dekalb Farmers Market for what else, but fresh fish.  I know.  I know.  It sounds terrible that we were picking up fresh seafood after such a wonderful morning with those exact same little creatures.  We ended up with some fresh fruit, fresh veggies, flounder, shrimp and lobster.  YUM!

And after some naps we enjoyed a wonderful evening of seafood.  It was simply delicious!  Such a great idea Grandpa Paul!  And thanks for helping cook and clean the kitchen Grandma Ellie.

Stay tuned for our miniature golf adventure to be posted soon….
