Learning Something New Everyday

My blog has definitely progressed over the last year and a half.  I started at blogger and a year later I moved over to WordPress.com.  Now I want to switch to my own self hosted WordPress URL.  I purchased my URL a few weeks ago, I know who my hosting site will be and I have been thinking about the new look and new design of my new blog.

And that’s where I’m stuck.

I have no idea how to write the code for the template of this.  I have my colors in mind.  I have created a new custom header, signature and a few buttons.  But now what?

How do I write this out so that it makes sense?  And works?

Anyone have any tips?  Techniques?  Websites that I should be referring to? Has anyone done their own with zero experience?  Am I getting in over my head?

  1. Jenny – I believe you are viewing my NEW blog at http://www.typicalsuburbanfamily.com. And thanks for the feedback! It’s going to be a work in progress for a little while, but so far I’m very happy with it.

  2. I think it looks great already! Did you find some help, or did you figure this out yourself? or, is this your wp.com blog still?

  3. I think you may be getting in over your head. I work for a company that designs websites, given that isn’t the same as designing a word press site, but HTML isn’t something you can just start doing. It’s a learning process, and a big one. I can only do minor things and that is after working here for 5 years! (I’m not a designer obviously.) There are lots of places/people you can go to and have them make your design. Shop around for prices!

    • I do have a little experience with html and coding; however, not to the extent of writing my own from scratch. But I’m thinking that if I start with a basic template and just make adjustments from there I would be ok. Not sure though. I’ve already designed my header and some of the buttons. Now I just need to figure out how to get them to the blog and do the style sheet. This should be interesting….. 🙂

I would LOVE to hear from you!
