Rough Week….

This past few weeks have been tough at our house.  It all started a few weeks ago when Jim cut open his thumb on a putty knife and needed 6 stitches.  Off to the urgent care he went (alone I might add since mommy had to stay home with the two napping boys).  Luckily urgent care is approximately 1.5 miles from our house.

Then last week Mommy got a terrible cold/flu with sore throat, terrible headache, runny nose, body aches and feeling just plain miserable.  I was out of work Tuesday through Friday and instead worked from home in order to not get everyone there sick.

Just as I was feeling better, Jim got pink eye.  It is very contagious and can be picked up anywhere – touching a shopping cart, something at daycare, etc.  Luckily the rest of us managed to stay “pink eye free” because putting drops into the eyes of toddlers is no easy task!

Then…. on Saturday Owen woke up from nap with hives every where!  All over his legs, back, butt….. it was crazy and out of nowhere.  So we called the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta nurse line and after a series of about 100 questions it was determined that he just needed to be monitored and if he still had the rash on Monday we should bring him to his peditrician.

Saturday night mommy and daddy had date night with 3 other couples in the neighborhood and SOOOO needed it!  Unfortunately just as we sat down to eat dinner Ms. Edna (our babysitter) called us to let us know that Owen threw up everywhere.  It didn’t seem that he was sick – no fever, his rash was gone and he was his normal happy self.  By the time we got home he had thrown up again and proceeded to do so FIVE more times throughout the night.  Needless to say I was very happy that at one point we had two boys in cribs because we had enough crib sheets to make it through all SEVEN times total of puking in his bed.  UGH!

This morning he seemed to be ok, but we stuck to no dairy and bland foods.  No rash and no puking so mommy was ecstatic!!  The disinfecting began and then around 10:30 he threw up again.  Back to square one and into the tub he went.

Daddy and Ryan took off to get out of the germ infested house and for something to do in order to occupy a very active almost 3 year old!  They had a great time and even came home with a super special toy for each of them since we were stuck in the house and having to take it easy.

Owen slept for 4 hours and woke up with hives covering his whole body again!  UGH!  No more puking so that’s good (knock on wood), but hives all over again tonight.  On his legs, arms, back, face.  He seems fine otherwise and is active and happy and not itching, but covered in hives.

I’ve already taken a day of PTO for tomorrow in order to get this kiddo on the mend and possibly a doctor visit as well.  It’s been a day of pedialyte, pasta noodles and bananas for us.  Plain and boring, but trying to keep his tummy on the mend and keep him hydrated.  Poor little O-wee.  Although you’d never know he is sick since he’s all over this house laughing, talking, walking,  playing and getting into trouble.  Such a sweetheart!
